Hand luggage - Some frequently asked questions

Can you take crayons on board a plane?
Yes, you can. Although you are asked to dispose of sharp objects, this does not include pens or pencils.
However, you may not take spare cartridges for ink pens on board.

Can I take a :

  • PSP
  • portable DVD player
  • MP3 player
  • CD player on board a plane?
  • batteries?
    Yes. You can take all of the above with in your hand luggage for use on board the plane. However, you will usually be asked to remove earphones and turn off the above items for landing and take off.
  • Can dried baby milk be taken on board?
    Yes.

    Can liquid milk be taken on board?
    Yes, but it must be tasted by the accompanying passenger or bought airside.

    Can baby milk cartons be taken on board?
    In short the answer is yes, but you’d have to open the carton as the accompanying passenger must taste baby milk prior to boarding, which defeats the purpose of taking them.
    We recommend you take your baby’s milk made up in their bottle or, if you prefer, take sterilised water (which will also need tasting) and powdered formula. Alternatively you can purchase the cartons airside.

    Are pushchairs allowed?
    Pushchairs are not allowed on board, but you may keep your pushchair up until you board the plane.
    All pushchairs will be x-ray screened.

    Can I take food on a plane?
    Some foods, yes.
    You can take:

  • crisps
  • sandwiches
  • fruit
  • vegetables
  • other solid foodThe following items are permitted as long as each item is less than 100mls and must be carried in a clear plastic, sealable wallet.
  • any liquid based foods in packets, tubes, plastic or tin containers
  • any food in sauce or gravy
  • jams or syrups
  • sauces
  • pastes
  • yoghurts
  • soups
  • stews or curry
  • What are the maximum hand luggage measurements?
    You may take one bag only. The measurements of this bag must not exceed:
    56cm x 45cm x 25cm including wheels, handles, side pockets etc. (From 22nd September 2006)

    Are all passengers allowed one bag? What about babies and twins?
    All passengers including babies and children are allowed one item only.
