Travelling by boat
20 March 2008
Taking children on a boat rather than flying may be your preferred mode of transport. The big boat can be quite an adventure. Instead of being couped up on an airplane your children can have the freedom to wander around with you and hopefully you can all arrive raring to go. There is nothing worse than a screaming toddler who is desperate to stretch their legs. On a boat they can! You can also book a cabin for those longer journeys, where you can all have a sleep in relative comfort, so no tired and miserable children or parents! Take a look at our hints and tips on travelling by boat.
Whether you’re planning to go to France, Ireland or just hopping from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight going by boat is simple and an inexpensive way to travel. You will most likely be driving to the port and taking the car with you. You will simply load up the car and away you go. However, once you have left your vehicle you won’t be able to go back to it so make sure you have all you need with you in your hand luggage.
Look at our article on travelling by car for more tips on having an enjoyable trip.
Packing is simple too, just load up the car and you’re off! Look at our packing guides for what to take and don’t forget once you’re on the boat you can have your child’s car seat and pushchair.
Don’t forget, though, that boats are pretty big. It is easy to lose your child. Take a look at our safety tips for keeping your child safe in crowded places here.
One more thing to consider is motion sickness. Even on the largest of boats children can feel nauseous. Look at our article on motion sickness here for more tips and advice for your children who may suffer.
You can make for your holiday to have a great start!
