A quiet weekend for two or a family break in Shakespeare’s County
24 June 2008
Set in the heart of England, Stratford upon Avon has something to keep most families happy. It’s also a great placed to visit if you’re lucky enough to escape with out the children! We visited by ourselves recently and found a lovely barn conversion to stay in. The barn has been carefully restored by the current owner into several separate properties, which is ideal if you want a larger get together.
Two boys, one apartment and lots of rain
23 June 2008
This year for the first time we chose to try out an apartment instead of a villa. We love staying in a villa, because we have privacy and our own pool. However, two teenage boys need more and more entertainment as the years go by. They love the pool, but after a while want something more. The villas we have hired have usually been quite remote too, so not so easy to stroll to a shop. So that was my thinking in hiring an apartment with a shared pool. I hoped they’d meet up with other people and the write up on the apartment said shops were ‘5 minute walk’, so I guessed that they could go alone quite easily. If you click on the picture you will see the view from the apartment balcony and the nearest shop circled. Make your own mind up how long it would take to walk there! It also had ‘2 private beautiful cascading infinity pools with sunbeds, shade, showers, and another large swimming pool at the exclusive Cumbre restaurant.’.

Featured Attraction for June - Alton Towers
5 June 2008
With the summer holidays and endless weeks of children needing entertainment why not head for Alton Towers? Admittedly the queues can get very long during busy times, but with it’s beautiful grounds you can stop off for a picnic and you’ll certainly have plenty to do and see for a whole day. However, a tip is to go on a school inset day or training day. That way you’ll find the park much quieter. Whenever you go you’ll find something for everyone; even non thrill seekers!
Getting there early is a must. As I’ve mentioned the queues can get quite long for the more popular rides, so you’ll need a full day to make the most of everything that there is to offer. The park is signposted clearly from the M6 although you’ll find yourself well and truly out in the sticks when you find the park itself. Even I have managed to find it in one go and, therefore, I dare say anyone can!
Alton Towers has all the thrills you’d expect, but they also cater for the littlies too. Visit Old Macdonalds Farmyard and Cred Street to keep the toddlers happy. They also offer facilities such as Parent Queue Share and Free ID bands available on site. You’ll find baby changing facilities throughout the park and there’s even a shop where you can buy anything you may have forgotten such as nappies and even Calpol. Pushchairs are available to hire for the day.
If you want to make a short break of it, why not stay at one of the hotels? When you’ve finished with the theme park there’s the Waterpark and two nine-hole crazy golf course to entertain the family.
You’ll find details of theme park breaks, including Alton Towers at http://www.play-and-stay.co.uk click on the link for more details on how to book.
