Rome for Children?

2 June 2009

Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but as with every city it is extremely busy and perhaps not the best place for young children. However, we have just had the most fantastic trip to Rome with our two children.

Just 18km from the centre of Rome, in the beautiful Rome countryside is Vigna Licia, 4 beautiful apartments set in gated grounds  and in absolute peace and tranquility. You couldn’t get further from the hustle and bustle of Rome although practically speaking you are 1/2 an hour away.

We were told we didn’t need a car staying here, but we did hire one. We hired a mini from here, which was great; brand new, air conditioning, nippy and enough space for us and our cases, oh, and cheap! Should you choose not to hire a car the bus leaves from the bottom of the drive to take you to the Metro, which takes you direct to the centre of Rome. However, we used the car to get to the nearby supermarket and to drive to the Metro, where you can park for just €1.50 for the day. A Roma pass will give you 3 days travel and entrance to some attractions. Click here for more details. Alternatively you can buy a weekly pass for the public transport, which Licia will buy for you or you can buy your own from most newsagents.

Vigna Licia has the most wonderful facilities. On site you’ll find beautiful gardens with a football pitch with goals, badminton net, sandpit, table tennis, bicycles, toys, swings. There is more than you need to keep your children happy. The apartments have a dishwasher and use of a washing machine, which I always find invaluable so I don’t come home to masses of laundry. If you want to see Rome and still have a relaxing holiday that suits all the family then look here at Vigna Licia. We stayed at Vigna Licia 23rd - 30th may 2009 and flew with British Airways from Gatwick, which was an absolute pleasure. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. Very organised check in and food and drinks on the flight were much appreciated and it was free! I feel spoilt having now flown with them! Not only were the staff polite, but we had airport parking just down the road from the Gatwick Travelodge at the nearby Airparks parking, which we booked through Purple Parking. Fifteen minutes, if that, on the bus and we were there and came home to our car waiting for us in their secure car park. We could’ve chosen to have it valeted also and to have it delivered for an extra £20 to the airport on our return. All in all an excellent holiday and there isn’t one thing I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
