Costa Blanca, Spain

27 December 2013

If you’re looking for a beach holiday with relatively short flights then try Spain’s Costa Blanca. If you’re feeling brave you can even drive to Spain. With the beautiful child friendly beaches as well as some stunning scenery if you find the right place to go you’re sure to find something for everyone.

Moraira and Javea are two particularly pretty places to visit. Both have the clean sands and crystal blue seas, but Moraira is slightly quieter, but still with plenty of shops and small bars and restaurants. There’s also a small marina where you can see fish happily swimming around the boats. There’s a small park nearby the beach too for a change of scenery. Read more

Mallorca

27 December 2013

Mallorca can get quite busy in high season and is not as quiet as it’s sister Menorca and perhaps isn’t the place to go if you want a relaxing break away from the mayhem of everyday life. However, it has some fantastic sandy beaches and array of sports and activities on offer. Flights from the UK take approximately 2 hours and you’ll fly to Palma airport.

There is a vast choice of accommodation, too. You can book a package holiday staying in a hotel or try some self catering in an apartment. Read more

Lanzarote, Spain

27 December 2013

Lanzarote has proved to be one of the most popular all year round destinations thanks to its warm climate and almost guaranteed sunshine. Flights take you to Arrecife and take about 4¼ hours from the UK. It is only 37 miles long and 12 miles wide, so getting around the island is relatively easy. You can usually be guaranteed warm weather in Lanzarote and sunshine making it an excellent choice of destination if you’re looking for some winter sunshine.

Mainland Spain

Currency - Euro

Visa - none required

Language Spanish

How to get there
The easiest way by far travelling with children has to be by plane.
Flights to mainland Spain take approximately 2 ½ hours. However, flight times to the Canaries are a little longer and are about 4½ hours.

There are several airports on the mainland, so no matter where you are going to transfer times shouldn’t be too long.
The islands are relatively small, but each has one airport.

Getting around when you are there
The roads are good and it’s easy to get around, but the style of driving in Spain can be fast and furious especially in the cities, which is worth bearing in mind. However, hiring a car can give you the freedom to explore wherever you choose to go.

Two boys, one apartment and lots of rain

23 June 2013

View from Apartment Balcony - Nearest shop circled! This year for the first time we chose to try out an apartment instead of a villa. We love staying in a villa, because we have privacy and our own pool. However, two teenage boys need more and more entertainment as the years go by. They love the pool, but after a while want something more. The villas we have hired have usually been quite remote too, so not so easy to stroll to a shop. So that was my thinking in hiring an apartment with a shared pool. I hoped they’d meet up with other people and the write up on the apartment said shops were ‘5 minute walk’, so I guessed that they could go alone quite easily. If you click on the picture you will see the view from the apartment balcony and the nearest shop circled. Make your own mind up how long it would take to walk there! It also had ‘2 private beautiful cascading infinity pools with sunbeds, shade, showers, and another large swimming pool at the exclusive Cumbre restaurant.’.

Menorca is an ideal holiday for young children and babies. It is a small and picturesque island off the south coast of Spain with more beaches that its neighbours, Majorca and Ibiza . If you are looking for a relaxing break then Menorca is for you. However, the island really is small and if you have children who want more than a beach and a pool you may find yourself running out of things to do especially if the weather is not so good.

Because Menorca is so popular you’ll find that summer holidays are booked up very quickly, so you’ll Read more
